Thanks to my incredible team, working for an affiliated company in India, for hosting my first trip there in 12 years. Let’s do it more often. This office is like a secret weapon. Developers there give us sovereignty and control and expediency, with software they write, in instances where we’re coding to someone else’s product and our own Graybox execution system. Accounting, trade support, help desk and HR are dynamos too. I was pleased to see so many familiar faces- about half worked with me 12 years ago- quite a feat for a country with super high employee turnover a year. Most Indian back office employees rotate between several nameless and faceless consulting clients and teams at their own companies, and often switch employers but I own a “captive” office and those employees must feel important and valued with a sense of ownership and permanency. Also, thanks to our founder, an industrious guy who used to go a few times a year to India to build the company. I call him Younger Me. I’m a full time CEO and part time standup comic. Other comedians sometimes roast me asking things like if I have a big toy train collection. No, but I do have a secret Tamil army. By the way, I found that my Indian company has a cricket team and plays on Saturdays. Does that mean I get to say I own a cricket team? I guess not, ha, ha.
